Foreign Minister proposes ‘digital diplomacy’ among Asian countries

“We need greater cooperation in digital technology sectors,” The ministe said.
 He was speaking at an international conference on digital government in Dhaka on Friday, 4th March,2016.
 Bangladesh Computer Council organized  the two-day conference(4-5th March,2016) as part of Bangladesh’s commitment to the CICA, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
 Established in 1999, the CICA is an inter-governmental forum of 26 countries that promotes peace, security and stability in Asia.

The minister also drew attention to security issues. “Information created, managed, operated, stored and shared by people and governments on the cyberspace need to be secured by all means.
 “There cannot be any compromise on this issue. That is why we need sustainable, user friendly, secure, compatible and cheaper digital technology to transform our governments and cater to the huge population in our CICA member states,” he said

He also highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts to digitalize the country, inspired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s “digital Bangladesh” slogan.
 
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Shahidul Haque , Secretary, ICT Division , Shyam Sunder Sikder, Executive director ,BCC S M Ashraful Islam  and H.E. Ambassador Mr. Gong Jianwei, executive director,CICA were also present, among others, at the inauguration of the conference.
